ORIGIN - CULTIVATION
Harvest times vary according to the Geographic zone, but typically there is one harvest per year. There are two primary methods of harvesting: strip picking and selective picking. Strip Picking is when the entire crop is picked in one pass. Selective picking is when workers make several passes among the coffee trees, carefully hand-picking only the ripe cherries. This method is obviously more time consuming and expensive, but inevitably yields a better quality harvest. A worker generally gathers between 100-200 pounds of cherries a day. One healthy plant produces only about one pound of coffee a year! |
